  1. This is the unregistered version 2.3 of PEDIGREE.

  3. PEDIGREE has undergone some major changes!  The biggest are: 
  4.   1. Significantly increased capacities for individuals and 
  5.      families.  Now you can process those really huge GEDCOM files!
  6.   2. 8 chart designs rather than 1!
  7.   3. A 5 generation chart!  Wowee!
  8.   4. Several new options to control printing.
  9.   5. Age-at-death calculations.  
  10.   6. Marriage date of parents printed.
  11.   7. Chart image files (.CHT) are now compressed to save disk space.
  12.   
  13. The document contains all the info you need to use the new features. 
  14. Check out the section at the back of the DOC which summaries all the 
  15. changes.

  17. Because of these changes (especially all the new chart designs) 
  18. the disk space requirements of the registered version have 
  19. increased.  The registered version will no longer run from a floppy. 
  20. It was a bad idea to try to run it from a floppy, anyway.

  22. To install PEDIGREE you'll need 2 MB to contain all the files 
  23. after unzipping them.  Many of the files can be deleted after 
  24. installation to reduce the program to it's fighting weight 
  25. (execution-only files).  You can, for example, delete the 
  26. distribution file PEDGRE.ZIP and the document file as well as 
  27. this READ.ME.  Copy the PEDGRE.ZIP file to your hard drive and unZIP 
  28. it.  If you know how to unZIP from the floppy distribution disk to a 
  29. hard drive, great ... do that.

  31. Here's another tip about conserving disk space that's not in the 
  32. manual.  If, after you've printed all the chart designs, you decide 
  33. that one or more is really ugly and you're never going to use it, 
  34. erase it (them).  Just be careful you pick the correct PEDIGREx.CHT 
  35. file name(s).  Secondly, after it's (they're) gone from your hard 
  36. drive, don't attempt to select them on the parameter screen.  That 
  37. will cause a fatal error in the program.  The same tip goes for the 
  38. fonts, but deleting any of them won't save much disk space so forget 
  39. I said this.

  41. The unregistered version includes only the ASCII PEDIGREE.TXT version
  42. of the manual.  I omitted the WordPerfect PEDIGREE.DOC file to
  43. minimize disk space needed and download time.  The unregistered version
  44. has 1 4-generation chart (SHADED) and the 5-generation chart (GENER5).

  47. the program are not only welcome but appreciated.
